Water Resources Department is using the remote sensing and GIS technology to map the embankment system in the entire state of Assam using satellite imageries. This helps to have a synoptic view of the entire embankment system of Assam and to take precautionary measures if breach occurs at any embankment.

Also, the migration of Brahmaputra as well as the erosion and deposition caused by the river is studied by the department using multi-temporal satellite data. It gets easier from such study to know the morphological behavior of the river and the possibility of changes in future. This in turn helps to take flood and erosion management measures more efficiently.
